Does This Sound Like You?
Yesterday we drove up to my husband's parents house. After a nice hour long drive up to their house enjoying the snow capped mountains of winter and talking to each other and to the kids, we pull into my in laws street.
"Honey, did you by chance pick up my insulin pump bag before we left?" my husband asks me.
"No, you didn't tell me too."
"Oh. It was sitting on the counter. I thought by chance you might have picked it up."
As if on cue, his pump angrily starts beeping at us. We glance up at each other, start laughing, and then frantically search through the car to locate his pump bag. Several seconds later, my husband says, "Look, I did pack it!" and triumphantly holds up the pump bag for all in the car to see. My kids give us looks like we're the wierdest parents on earth.
We're just happy that we diverted a disasterous hour long trip home with him getting sicker by the minute and two complaining kids wondering why we got to grandma's house and then had to suddenly turn around and head home again. (We've done that one before. Longest hour of our lives).
We had a great visit though and as always it was great to enjoy seeing the family.

Yes, this sounds like our Christmas holiday....on a mountain in India. I spent days beforehand writing lists and packing everything we needed for two diabetics and their insulin pumps. Both are relatively new pumpers so we also took pens, needles....you name it. I thought I had it ALL covered! But as we landed in Mumbai, I fished out the blood meter to test our little girl's BG and remembered that I'd forgotten to pack spare test strips....we had exactly 17 strips between two of them. Just about enough to last us a day and a half. Off we went on a frantic drive around Mumbai to find somewhere to buy a new blood meter for them. I was just thankful that I'd remembered this BEFORE we did the 3-hour drive up the mountainside and the 20-minute walk to the bungalow!
